The following are the English tenses commonly taught at the high school level, complete with brief explanations and examples:
1. Simple Present Tense
Function: Expresses habits, facts, or general conditions.
Formula:
(+) Subject + Verb 1 (s/es)
(–) Subject + do/does + not + Verb 1
(?) Do/Does + Subject + Verb 1?
Example:
She goes to school every day.
I don't like coffee.
Do you play football?

2. Present Continuous Tense
Function: Expresses actions that are currently taking place.
Formula:
(+) Subject + am/is/are + Verb-ing
(–) Subject + am/is/are + not + Verb-ing

3. Present Perfect Tense
Function: States events that have occurred and are still relevant now.
